What is CBD and Why You Need to Know More About It

Whether you have been watching the news, or friend or family member has mentioned it, you have probably heard the letters C-B-D recently.  We’d like to break down what it is, why you need to know and describe our approach– to fully utilize the wellness potential of Hemp Extract to provide the highest quality CBD products to all those who need it at an affordable price.

What is CBD?

Let’s dive into what CBD is.  CBD stands for cannabidiol, a compound found in both marijuana and hemp plants.  The marijuana plant and the hemp plant are not exactly the same. Hemp plants produce more CBD than THC, while marijuana produces more THC than CBD. Interestingly, research has shown that CBD acts to reduce the psychoactive effects of THC, separating hemp further from marijuana. For a thorough explanation of the difference, of the difference between the plants, including the differences in cultivation, genetics and differing uses, you can read more on that subject here.  It is vital that we explain and underscore that CBD is not THC.

They are actually very different and affect the human body very differently. The least processed form of the cannabis plant is hemp.  The use of cannabis recreationally, to produce a “high” is what most people associate with the term cannabis.  However, hemp, a cannabis plant is viable many different industries from wellness to manufacturing. Hemp contains most of the CBD that people use medicinally.  Here at Bloem we use the term cannabis plant and hemp because we are focused on CBD as a tool for wellness and work to educate the community about the benefits of CBD.

Project CBD explains it well: CannabidiolCBD—is a cannabis compound that has significant medical benefits, but does not make people feel “stoned” and can actually counteract the psychoactivity of THC. The fact that CBD-rich cannabis is non-psychoactive or less psychoactive than THC-dominant strains makes it an appealing option for patients looking for relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, psychosis, seizures, spasms, and other conditions without disconcerting feelings of lethargy or dysphoria.”

Over the years, marijuana farmers have selectively bred their plants to contain high levels of THC and other compounds that interested them, often because the compounds produced a smell or had another effect on the plant’s flowers.

In contrast to marijuana cultivation, hemp farmers rarely modify the plant. It is the hemp plant that Bloem (and other manufacturers)  use to create CBD oil. At Bloem, we are careful to use Colorado hemp that is grown and extracted under the guidelines of the Colorado Department of Agriculture each product infused with CBD is tested under the Colorado state guidelines and must be third party tested to ensure the accuracy, consistency and quality of our products.

In fact, Bloem oils are a proprietary blend of 99%+ CBD Isolate and MCT Oil.  We have found to our blend to be the perfectly formulated blend for quick absorption and relief. MCT refers to Medium-Chain Triglycerides that are special types of saturated fats derived from coconut and palm oils. Unlike long-chain triglycerides (LCTs), MCTs are used by the body quickly and easily. Cannabinoids are fat soluble, meaning they break down and are stored in fat rather than water. Because of this trait, cannabinoids are most effective when consumed with fat, increasing their bioavailability. Coconut oil contains saturated fat at levels close to 80%, giving cannabinoids the fat cells they need to move throughout the body.

The compound CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of 113 identified cannabinoids found in cannabis sativa. CBD is one of many compounds, known as cannabinoids, in the cannabis plant.  For many years now, researchers have been looking at the possible therapeutic uses of CBD. All cannabinoids, including CBD, produce effects in the body by attaching to certain receptors.

The human body produces certain cannabinoids on its own. It also has two receptors for cannabinoids, called the CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors.

CB1 receptors are present throughout the body, but many are in the brain.  It is these CB1 receptors in the that brain deal with coordination and movement, pain, emotions, and mood, thinking, appetite, and memories, and other function including inflammation and pain.

Researchers once believed that CBD attached to these CB2 receptors, but it now appears that CBD does not attach directly to either receptor. Instead, it seems to direct the body to use more of its own cannabinoids which is why we recommend keeping a log of your dosage each day. For some people, over time, they can utilize a consistent dosage and gain maximum benefit from that dosage because the CBD is directing the body to also use more of its own cannabinoids.  Other people find that increasing the dosages during a flare up of pain and inflammation, for example, also yields benefits and they then return to their usual dosage when the flare up subsides.

Why You Need to Know More About It: Health Benefits

Science publications, medical publications and lifestyle publications alike have been addressing the many benefits of CBD.  As noted in an article from Science Trends, Given its rise, researchers are now looking into clarifying exactly what CBD can be used to treat. Dr. Esther Blessing, a researcher at New York University, has begun research on CBD and alcohol use disorder (AUD) in patients with PTSD in hopes of understanding CBD’s role in treating addiction and other addictive behaviors.”

And that is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the benefits that scientists and doctors continue to research and confirm.

The reason we founded Bloem was to help people feel better and central to our work is education. We believe it is through education of this amazing plant that the stigmas of Cannabis Sativa will be removed and the power of this all natural plant can be utilized by all.

To that end we have partnered with organizations such as BRAS (Breast Research Awareness and Support) to provide educational programs and other wellness programs to our customers.

Our hemp extract is third party tested for potency and quality. Our third party laboratory applies a stringent testing program to ensure that we deliver top quality products with the very best possible CBD.

We fully and wholeheartedly believe in the wellness benefits of CBD.  From pain relief to reduced anxiety and acne treatment, the list of CBD benefits is long and growing.  But you don’t have to take out word for it. Healthline.com ( a general wellness and well-being site) cites a number of benefits in the article by Jon Johnson titled “Everything you need to know about CBD oil”  As Mr. Johnson notes, “Recommended dosages vary between individuals, and depend on factors such as body weight, the concentration of the product, and the health issue.”  We have a dosage chart on our site that addresses different conditions, the weight of the individual and provides a recommended dosage.

Our dosage information (found on our home page) is meant to be used as a starting point of reference, and not a specific guideline. The fact remains that everyone is in a different place and will react differently to their CBD/MCT dosage. As serving size or dosage of CBD/MCT differs for each person, it is best to start small and gradually increase until you experience the desired result. If you experience any side effects from increased MCT usage but need more therapeutic relief increase to a higher strength CBD/MCT oil combination.

There is no scientific data establishing a recommended dose of CBD due to the FDA’s current stance regarding CBD. According to FDA guidelines, no one can say that any amount of CBD will cure, help, or treat any health condition. Consider, however, your weight and the severity of your condition. We recommend to start with a low dose and increase as needed.

Someone You Know May Be Using It

Another reason this information may be valuable to you is because someone you know may be using CBD for their well-being.  As we noted earlier, our goal is to take the stigma out of CBD and underscore that CBD does not have the psychotropic effects of THC.

In fact, CBD has also been found to be somewhat effective towards treating particular types of muscle disorders (like dystonia), insomnia, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease among many others so it is highly likely you know someone with one of these conditions that may be using CBD.

Our clients range in age from the very young to the not-so-young and we love hearing from them regarding how our carefully created CBD has helped them with issues from anxiety to chronic pain.  So if someone you know mentions their use of CBD, know that they are using it as a wellness tool and not as a recreational tool because again, Bloem’s CBD (any many others) does not contain THC and does not have any psychotropic properties.

Someone You Know Could Benefit from Using it

If this article piques your interest because you or someone you know could benefit from using CBD oil, we strongly recommend that you continue your research, visit our Website for more information or give us a call with your questions.  We believe strongly in the importance of education now and as the research on the benefits of CBD continues.
